3 have died, and 3 critically injured on local roads so far over the thanksgiving holiday.
Accident 1. Was Yesterday afternoon on The H.E. Bailey Turnpike westbound at mile marker 89 a 2 vehicle injury collision occurred, and Mediflight was called. Names have not been released from OHP.
#2. A crash thanksgiving afternoon on State Highway 4 at Tyler Rd. north of Tuttle left An elderly couple dead, and another driver injured. A unidentified, 26-year-old male driver of a SUV crossed the center line and hit a car head-on about 5:30. The 82-year-old driver Loren McKeown of the other car died… and his 79-year-old wife Rebecca was taken to OU Medical Center where she also passed.
#3. A single vehicle,.. injury accident occurred Thanksgiving day around noon on Highway 19 about 1 and ½ miles east of Apache.
And #4. There was a Fatality Collision Tuesday night around 1024…. on HWY 81 .
1 mile south of County Road 1280….. just 2 ….and ½ miles south of Pocasset. Where a rear tandem came off a pickup.. and caused an oncoming tractor trailer to flip. Closing the road for several hours…and killing the Simi driver.
**In an update…on last weeks Duncan shooting …
(Jeremy Jason Lee Graham faces charges in shooting; last Friday night. Officers were call to the scene of a reported, man shooting at a woman while running down the road in the 1600 block. The woman told the detective, she didn’t remember what happened because she was too drunk. Witnesses said, Graham grazed a man on the right side of his head when he fired the shotgun. Investigators found a discharged 20 gage shell at the scene. An OSBI residue test found powder on Graham’s hands, and he had three 20-gauge shotgun shells in his pocket. Graham is charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and obstructing a police officer.A bond has not been set.

Chickasha is growing!
Chickasha is seeing a boom in hotel building due to the oil industry and our Grady County Fair Grounds events. Fairfield Inn is building on Hwy 81 south, and ground breaking is set to start on another hotel. Christy Elkins, CEO of Chickasha Economic Development said at this time we have 500 hotel rooms in Chickasha, with an occupancy rate of more than 80 percent. This boom will help Chickasha with economical growth, and Local Jobs.

Apache and Cyril Fire departments Rescued a driver Thanksgiving day.
According to Trooper Brent Lankister of Troop "G" A single vehicle injury accident occurred Thanksgiving day around noon.on Highway 19 about 1and ½ miles east of Apache. 64 year old Barney Reed of Choctaw, driving a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, was eastbound on State Highway 19 when his vehicle departed the roadway then struck a drainage ditch, went airborne and overturned 1 ¼ times before landing on its side. Reed was pinned approximately 15 minutes before being freed by the Jaws of Life tool implemented by Apache and Cyril Fire Departments. Reed was Transported by Survival Flight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in fair condition with internal injuries.
In an update to Wednesdays report of a Duncan shooting last weekend.
Jeremy Jason Lee Graham has been charged in connection the shooting last Friday night.
The shooting happened in the 1400 block of North 17th Street. Witnesses said Graham shot and grazed a man, and a woman who ran away from the scene. Graham charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and obstructing a police officer. He Told police he was drunk, and at the time and didn’t remember anything. A bond not been set.
Temporary fix to Oklahoma Health Agency cuts is only a Delay.
State agency overseeing Medicaid in Oklahoma will delay planned rate cuts for providers and nursing homes for another month. Oklahoma Health Care Authority officials warned Wednesday they're still planning cuts January. Saying, it will delay reimbursement rate cuts of 9 percent for most health providers and 4 percent for nursing facilities set to take effect Dec. 1st. Now, officials are planning cuts of 6 percent for most providers and 1 percent for nursing facilities effective Jan. 1. Even with the cuts, their budget shortfall is nearly $10 million dollars.
Chickasha is seeing a boom in hotel building
The oil industry seems to be giving our town a Minnie boom. At this time Fairfield Inn is being built south on Hwy 81, and ground is set to break on another. Christy Elkins, CEO of Chickasha Economic Development says “A lot of people who working in the oil service, or on drilling rigs are staying in our hotels.” At this time we have 500 hotel rooms in Chickasha,with an occupancy rate of more than 80 percent. Another key reason for the explosion is we host Events here at the Grady County Fairgrounds that people want to attend.

Troops Make it Home for Holadays
The Oklahoma National Guard’s welcomed home nearly 250 members of 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team at the Broken Arrow Armed Forces Reserve Center this week after a deployment to Ukraine. The unit deployed to Ukraine as part of the Joint Multinational Training Group where they provided training support for Ukrainian Forces. They were the second of two six-month rotations to Ukraine consisting of 500 Soldiers. The other half of the 1-279th IN, will return back to Oklahoma in the following weeks.

George DeWayne “Wayne” Mize, 74, of Blanchard, passed Monday, in Oklahoma City. George was a US Army veteran and worked as a truck driver. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Trinity Holiness Church in Blanchard. Burial will follow in the Noble IOOF Cemetery in Noble. Fatality Crash takes Life
There was a Fatality Collision last night around 1024…. on US 81 one mile south of County Road 1280 just 2 .and ½ miles south of Pocasset. In a report by OHP troop G,a 2008 Ford F550 pick-up driven by Christopher D. Flood was northbound on US 81, and a 2018 Peterbuilt tractor/trailer driven by Brian D. Akins was southbound on US 81. The rear dual tires on the driver’s side of Flood’s vehicle came off crossing into the southbound lane of HWY 81 causing Akins to swerve right and off the roadway and overturning before coming to rest. Driver o Brian D. Akins was pinned and partially ejected. After rescque he was Transported by the Medical Examiner’s Office and Pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Russell Boswell of Troop G reported…Seat belts were used in both vehicles. Oil and Gas Partnerships could boost job growth in Grady County
According to “business insider Dot com… M S E P”, part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and "Durango Midstream announced a strategic partnership with Durango Midstream
to support the growth of the Company’s in the Midcontinent region of the United States. The Companies are expected to focus on expansion of its gathering and processing system in Grady County, to support producers in the SCOOP-STACK plays of Central Oklahoma. Robert Lee, Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Energy Partners, said, "We are delighted … the business is uniquely positioned for growth (in the Area).”
No OKDHS Program will receive Cuts On Dec. 1, but a long term Solutions Still Needs to be found!
According to DHS, The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will not have to reduce or eliminate service programs for seniors and people with disabilities on Dec. 1 and Jan. 1 as previously planned. Gov. Fallin approved $26.9 million dollars in short-term funding for the agency. Ed Lake, DHS Director said… "The funding stops devastating cuts and continue providing critical services beyond December 1st. DHS will begin sending official notices to service recipients, and providers in the many programs. For more details go to ok dhs.org
Here’s an update on the Friday night shooting in Duncan
We reported earlier this week, Duncan Police responded to a shooting about 8 o’clock Friday evening in the 1400 Block of 17th Street. Duncan PD said the shot victim was taken to the hospital and declined to provide. Although an unnamed suspect was arrested on other charges; the suspect has not been captured!.. Police are gathering information on the incident. So anyone with information call the Stephens County Crime Stoppers at (580) 252-4636.
Chickasha Comes together to enjoy Thanks giving
The Chickasha Community Thanksgiving meal hosted by 1st Presbyterian, 1st Christian, and Local churches will be served between 1130 and 1 Thursday morning at the first Presbyterian Church at 6th and Minnesota. The meal is free, but donations are welcome!

Roadside Scanner to catch Uninsured Drivers will soon start Automatic Ticketing
According to Gat-so USA Oklahoma has finalized a deal to use license-plate scanners to catch uninsured drivers,…The firm expects to issue 20,000 citations a month starting as early as next year. According to the District Attorneys Council, The program will set up automated high-speed cameras on highways to detect uninsured vehicles and mail citations… with a fine of $184 dollars
to your Home of record. Drivers who pay the fees will avoid having a charge on their permanent record. A 2015 Pew Charitable Trusts survey found that 26 percent of all drivers in the state are uninsured!

Gas Leak Forces Bank Evacuation
A building in downtown Chickasha was evacuated Monday, after construction crews rupture a natural gas line. The First National Bank main branch at 3rd and Chickasha was evacuated around 2 o'clock, after a two-inch gas line was ruptured. About 20 bank employees were evacuated. No other nearby businesses were evacuated, as officials say the wind helped to disperse the gas. Officials say this particular gas line was a two-way line, and Centerpoint Energy had to call in an extra crew to shut it down. The ruptured gas line was in the same area where another natural gas line was ruptured by construction crews just a couple of weeks ago. No evacuations were necessary in that incident. First National Bank Vice President of Communications, Randy Talley, said the main branch did have to close yesterday, though other locations remained open. However, phone calls to the bank were limited, as the call center was re-located to the Minco branch.
City Council Settles Civil Rights Lawsuit
A federal civil rights lawsuit filed against the City of Chickasha is being settled out of court. The city council approved the settlement following a 30-minute closed door meeting last night. The suit was filed in 2015 by Shavonna Moore. Her attorney, Tyler Perriman, said Moore alleged her civil rights were violated when the city partially bulldozed her home. The city had ruled that the home did not meet city codes. The council has agreed to remove the remaining structures on the property down to the foundation and fill in the water well and cistern within 90 days at no cost to Moore.
Council Approves Storage Business Over Objections
A controversial storage facility will be built, despite opposition from local residents. The city council unanimously approved a re-zoning request for Brice Binyon and Jared Ellis, to build the business at 115 East Almar. The issue was discussed for more than 30 minutes, with comments from residents and business owners concerned about the plans. Business owner John Holt has his car dealership nearby, and he also lives in the area. Holt said he was speaking for many of his neighbors who were opposed to the development.
Ellis told the council that the storage facility would not create as much traffic as a number of other possible developments that would be allowed within the current zoning codes.
Ellis and Binyon said they hopes to break ground on the new facility after the first of the year, with an estimated completion date in late June or early July.
Council Rejects Mineral Rights Bid
The council also rejected a bid by a company seeking mineral rights on city-owned land near Lake Chickasha. Bearcat Energy out of Oklahoma City was the only bidder on the 200 acres in last night's meeting. The bid of $750 an acre, with a three-year, 3/16ths royalty was unanimously rejected.
Shop With a Cop OK'd
Some needy kids in Chickasha will have some presents to open on Christmas, thanks to the generosity of local donors. The Chickasha Police Department's inaugural Shop with a Cop program was approved by the city council last night. Acting Police Chief G.G. Music says donors have contributed about $6,000 to buy presents for kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade. He said the kids will be shopping with police officers, which will create a positive interaction with officers. The recipients are chosen based on information provided by school teachers and counselors. The shopping day will be on Friday, Dec. 8th.
Tips to Keep from Gaining Holiday Pounds
'Tis the season to overeat. The time between Thanskgiving and New Year's presents a lot of opportuniies to enjoy foods that we enjoy only a couple of times a year. Susan Routh with Grady County OSU Extension.
She says a couple of ways to do that is to log the foods you eat, eat slowly and in moderation and increase physical activity, which can be as simple as two or three walks per day, about 10 to 15 minutes each.

Civil Rights Lawsuit Filed vs. Chickasha City Hall
A closed-door meeting of the Chickasha City Council today to have more discussion about a federal civil rights lawsuit filed against the city. Shavonna Moore filed the lawsuit in 2015. The reason for the lawsuit isn't clear. On-line court records indicate a jury trial in the case is scheduled for January 9th.
Re-Zoning Plans to be Reviewed
The city council will also review a number of projects that were considered by the city's planning commission. Among them, two properties requesting industrial zoning. One is between 4th and 8th Streets along the Stillwater National Railroad and the second is some land near the fresh water treatment plant north of the city's Public Works headquarters. The council will also discuss commercial re-zoning applications along Almar Drive for a new storage business and a one near 4th and Grand near Wal-Green's for a new Verizon store.
City-owned Mineral Rights may be Auctioned
The council will be holding an auction to lease mineral rights on about 200 acres in the Lake Chickasha area. This is the same region where the council held a similar auction just a few weeks ago. The company that won the bid is wanting to bid on some additional acreage in that region.
DAV May Lease Chickasha's Old City Hall
The council is expected to approve a lease with the Disabled American Veterans to lease the former city hall at 6th and Chickasha Avenue. The group is expected to approve a five-year lease at a cost of just $1 per year. The agreement calls for work to be performed on the building, as long as it follows city codes. DAV would be responsible for utilities.
Boil-Order Suggested in Minco
Water line breaks in Minco has city officials urging residents to boil water. The water may be unsafe for consumption, so officials have called for a voluntary and precautionary boil order. Officials say there are a number of water main breaks that can't be fixed. A temporary water line has been installed to bypass the problem area. Officials urge residents to boil water for a full minute before using it for consumption, food preparation, and even bathing infants, who may ingest the bad water. Water should also be boiled before washing dishes, brushing your teeth, or treating wounds. The advisory is in effect until further notice. The Department of Environmental Quality is aware of the problems.
Firms to Match Food Bank Contributions
Several food pantries in the region will benefit from a matching grant agreement between several companies and the Regional Food Bank. The groups will match up to $600,000 in donations in a program called the Holiday Match. From now through January 15th, APMEX, the Cresap Family Foundation and Chesapeake Energy will help fill those food pantries. Local food pantries that will benefit include Grady County Department of Human Services, First Baptist Church of Chickasha; Southern Hills Church of Christ; the Ressurection House; Red Rock Behavioral Health Services; Minco First Assembly of God; and Snowhill Baptist Church in the Tuttle area.
