Top Five Signs You Got A Pretty Bad Sunburn

A lobster was laughing at you

It hurts to think about touching your skin

People driving see you and stop

Someone asks, "Where are your horns?"

Out of nowhere, a bull charges you

Why We Do What We Do

Yesterday, I had a live broadcast at our local Supercuts. It was late morning, and while you may not think that time on a weekday is a popular time for hairstyling, we did have some visitors.

One of them was a skinny, dark haired man who looked like he had seen better times. He saw me at our table inside the salon and came over to say hello. His name was John, and he told me that he was a big fan of the station, and listened as much as he could, even when he was on the brink of dying. You see, John had just had a liver transplant a week ago. If it hadn't happened, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to talk to him.

John told me how, during recovery, he had his family bring him his portable radio and headphones so he could listen to us while he was in the hospital. He says he even had the staff move the bed so he could get the best reception. John claims we helped him recover much faster than the doctors expected.  I could tell he was grateful to be there and happy to be able to do something we all take for granted at one time or another.

Yesterday was the first day he had been able to get out of the house on his own in months, and he decided to get a haircut. I'm glad he did, because he's a very nice guy. I gave him a T-shirt. I would have paid for his haircut if I could have.

Radio is a business, there's no denying that. But an integral part of it, at least here at KOOL, is helping people "forget about life for a while". I'm happy that we could do that for John.

John, I hope your recovery continues to be strong and speedy, and that you'll be "keeping it KOOL" for years to come.
