This Weekend's New Movies

Friday's here, and that means new movies!  Here are the new releases you can find this weekend in Chickasha.

First:  "Insurgent".  In this sequel to "Divergent", Tris must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her side.

Also out this weekend, is "The Gunman", starring Sean Penn and Idris Elba.  A former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.

Enjoy your weekend!

The Last Time

I hit me a few days ago...in just a few months, my youngest will graduate from high school.  The baby boy is a young man now.  I don't know if he'll leave the house any time soon, but he doesn't need me the same way that he did when he was learning to walk and talk and say the words "We'll be right back!"  Someday, though, he will leave to take on the world on his own.

Where did all that time go?

Today, while I was wondering that, I came across this poem.  If you've already been there and done that, you'll get it.  If you're there now, you'll understand.  If you're still parenting young ones and wonder how you'll ever survive...read this.  Time is precious.  Enjoy every moment you can.

The Last Time

From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
you will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you have freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about.

You will know tiredness like you never knew it before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
Full of feedings and burping,
Nappy changes and crying,
Whining and fighting,
Naps or a lack of naps,
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.

But don’t forget …
There is a last time for everything.
There will come a time when you will feed
your baby for the very last time.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child.

One day you will carry them on your hip then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake to this.

One afternoon you will sing “the wheels on the bus”
and do all the actions,
Then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
The next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time.

The thing is, you won’t even know it’s the last time
Until there are no more times.
And even then, it will take you a while to realize.

So while you are living in these times,
remember there are only so many of them
and when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.
For one last time.

Jose, Can You See?

Some of you know I like to sing.  If you've been out at karaoke any given weekend, chances are you'll find me there.  One of the things on my bucket list is singing the National Anthem at a sporting event.  No one's ever asked me, though, so that hasn't yet been checked off...but it may be soon.

I've been selected to audition for the Oklahoma City Dodgers baseball team's National Anthem singers.   Now, getting to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at an event is cool...but at a baseball game?  That's just about perfect.

My audition is March 21st.  I'll let you know if I'm chosen, and at what game I'll be singing, as soon as I find out.

Then, after that, I'll move on to the next item on my bucket list...marrying Kate Upton.

That one may be a WEE bit more difficult to accomplish.
